We have a SyFy channel that one would assume is dedicated to just that – science fiction shows.
What does wrestling have to do with science fiction? I know it’s fiction, but it’s not science fiction. It’s like the way BBC America has been featuring Star Trek: The Next Generation… that show isn’t British at all. Who decides this stuff?
Anyway, I don’t think that SyFy should carry wrestling

I came home one day this week to find a couple of Mama turkeys and their broods hanging around the chicken coop. I wish they weren’t so shy and had waited around until I could get my camera and take some pictures…
I am sooo happy with my garden this year. Right now seems to be cucumber season – I’ve been picking tons of the beauties. I’ve given away over a dozen and I still have bunches…
I’ve made a bunch of bread and butter pickles and have been eating a lot of creamed cucumber slices. I was going to make some cucumber sandwiches, but when I found the cream cheese in the back of the drawer in my refrigerator was dated November 2009, I put that idea on hold until I go grocery shopping…
I’m glad I didn’t tear out my green bean plants – they put out a ton of new flowers and I’ve been picking beans left and right. I’ve frozen a ton for the winter and hope to freeze a whole bunch more. What a difference when there aren’t any Evil Baby Bunny Rabbits eating the stuff in my garden!
I’m trying something new – someone told me that Brussels sprouts are easy to grow… my Mom likes Brussels sprouts, so I put in some seeds in some of the bare areas I have around my strawberry plants and around my watermelon plants. We’ll see what happens…
I don’t know why I didn’t notice earlier, but I had a pumpkin plant mixed in where I put my watermelons…
Pretty obvious, huh? They’ve pretty much filled in the bed since this picture was taken. They aren’t producing anything, but they are keeping the weeds down in the bed,so I’m happy with that.
The inspection for the Jillmobile is due. I have an appointment to get it done this week, but who knows how far it will get. I’m having ‘Check Engine’ light issues, which are always a pain and expensive, plus my ‘Service 4-Wheel Drive’ light went on. I am not anxious to find out how much this is going to cost me and how long it’s going to take to fix. Not having a second vehicle, I have to rent a car every day my truck is in the shop
On the brighter side of things - I’m not a huge fan of Geico, but I do enjoy some of their commercials. I like Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel and couldn’t help but laugh at these – I thought they were great!
And then there was this one that I couldn’t embed – it’s short and definitely funny! I’ll bet the Hillstrands never saw insurance commercials in their future when they signed on to their TV show
I like to watch Bravo TV, but I’d like to know what’s up with the foreign hosts they’ve been using for the shows lately?
When Project Runway was on Bravo, they had Heidi Klum (she still hosts the show on Lifetime). I like her as a host – she has a heavy German accent, but she is still perfectly understandable… and she’s pretty.
Then they have Tabatha’s Salon Takeover hosted by – well, Tabatha. From Australia, she too has a big accent but is still very intelligible.
But then they bring along Chef Academy with Jean Christophe Novelli, who had a thick French accent… while I liked the show, I had a hard time understanding anything the guy was saying – thank goodness for the subtitles. And the people on Shear Genius – I have no idea where they are from, but they speak English like they have marbles in their mouths. They couldn’t find someone that speaks clear English for the host? Fortunately none of these, except maybe Project Runway, is “must see TV” for me, but I sure hope this won’t be a continuing trend.
And while I’m complaining about TV – I hate Verizon’s ‘Big Red’ commercial…
It illustrates perfectly why I hate texting. Everyone I know who texts, does exactly what you see in the commercial – ignoring the real people around them while they are busy tapping away at their phones texting to lord-only-knows-who. Texting is one rudeness I have no tolerance for. While I may not say anything directly to the person who’s texting while they should be paying attention to something/someone else, they drop way down on my Respect List. My blood pressure goes up every time I see this commercial.
So homemade Harvard beets are absolutely-fantastically-wonderful! They are just as good, if not better than the stuff from the jar. And I discovered that they are even better warm. I’ve always had them cold before, but because I couldn’t wait for mine to cool down, I ate some right away. Mmmm-Mmmm Good! For sure I am going to I plant a lot of beets in the garden next year… I’ll have to figure out if there is a way to can or preserve them if I make a lot next fall
And I need to update my commercial list – I was remiss in omitting a series of commercials I love: The Free Credit Report.com commercials. I liked the first ones better, but I still can’t help but sing along with any of them when they come on I think that there are supposed to pirate hats in all the commercials…Kind of like a Where’s Waldo. I’ve found them in four – possibly five - of the commercials.
This weekend we had a conversation/debate on the best TV commercials showing now. There are a lot of really dumb ones out there, but there are a few that are classics in my book. The funny thing about the commercials we were bringing up was the fact that we could describe the commercials, but a lot of the time we had no idea what they were advertising. I’m thinking that kind of defeats the whole purpose of the commercial

I think that for the first time ever in my life, everyone I voted for on election day actually won! Let’s just hope now that means good things are coming.
I was watching TV last night and I saw a Billy Mays commercial. Is that right? Should they be showing his commercials anymore? Not that I was creeped out or anything (like I was with the Orville Redenbacher commercial they brought out), but doesn’t advertising a product that with a person that is dead kind of make the product not feel fresh? A movie that has dead people in it can become a classic, I’m not so sure the same can be said of commercials…
For those of you looking for Christmas decorating ideas, this might be one way to go (I’m looking at the house on the right….)
Did you ever fall into that groove where things start to fall into place? Even when some things aren't doing good at all, other parts just go your way. I've been shopping around for some things that I needed to buy for the house and I really didn't think that I would be happy with anything that I could afford. You know how it is - everything you like is *just* out of your price range... yeah. However, I've really managed to really score on some important things. A good price for things I really love - yay! Also, projects are starting to move along - big and small. Soon, I'll *really* be able to make some headway on some pretty cool things I have planned around the house. I'm chomping at the bit to get working - but it's looking like I'll have to wait at least another week or two before I can really get going. I'm feeling giddy just thinking about it :)
And I heard that the Steelers won the Superbowl. A few people I know are pretty happy about that. Me - it doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I used to video tape the Superbowl every year. Not to watch the game - but to watch the commercials :) Thanks to the wonderful invention of YouTube, I don't have to bother anymore. Plus it's a lot easier to watch the commercials without have to fast forward through a lot of stuff I couldn't care less about.
I've been pretty disappointed in the Superbowl commercials the last bunch of years. You would think that for what the sponsors pay to air their commercials, that at least 90% of the commercials would blow everyone out the water. It seems like we're lucky if two or three of the commercials are memorable. Today at work, I was asking people what their favorite Superbowl commercial was. Everyone I asked could describe their favorite. Not one person could tell me what product/company was being advertised - except for the people who liked the Doritos commercial. That's a pretty sad commentary for the people who are writing these commercials. Isn't the idea to make people remember your product so they will buy it? Go figure.
And no one mentioned any Budweiser commercials as their favorite. I've always liked them the best. They always make me cry. Except the last year or two, they seem to be making a couple that are on the crude side. I don't like those.
I haven't had the chance to watch all the commercials yet, but so far a Doritos one is my favorite (this may change as I see more):
