The Grass is Greener…

When I bought my house, the area behind my house was an overgrown field full of weeds and shrubs.

I had cut a path to the back forty to give me a place to dump weeds, food scraps, grass cuttings, etc.

I’ve done nothing special to the path except to keep it mown.

Why does that path (that no one can see except me) look nicer than my front lawn which I cut and use weed-and-feed on (and the whole world can see)?

Where Do They Come From?

So how come Google can pass out everyone’s private information, but I can’t find out why one of my blog pages is getting so many hits?

For some reason this page is very popular from other parts of the world and I have no idea why.  It would be really nice to be able to see which picture is the one that people like.  None of the pictures on that page are close to being good, much less great.  So the only thing I can surmise is that a lot of people either like beets a whole lot or they like looking at chicken butts.

When I try to follow the referring image, all I get is this:

Google page

Another page that I am getting a lot (‘lot’ being a relative term rolleyes )of hits on is the one I wrote on my visit to the Pendleton Castles.  Some of the visitors have come through a Google search, which makes sense (evidently Google lets you see search words, but not the pictures that people used?), but a lot of the referring urls are through Facebook.  As I’ve mentioned before, I am not a heavy user of Facebook and I definitely didn’t post anything there about the castles.  When I tried to follow the link to see where it came from, I get sent to the Buffalo Powder Keg Festival page.  Weird.  I don’t mind it at all, but I would love to know how that blog page got referenced on Facebook.

Oh well – I guess that I should be grateful that my pages are being referenced somewhere laughing

Repeats

Why is it when a big movie comes on TV, it shows up on ten different channels and that’s all we see for weeks and weeks?

One station shows National Treasure – then for the next four or five weeks, a bunch of other stations show it too.

One station shows The Mummy – then it seems like whenever you change the channel, there it is!

One station shows The Devil Wears Prada – then it shows up on other stations for weeks to come.

Maybe a station rents a movie and and passes it around to all the other stations it owns until the movie has to go back?  I don’t know…

I don’t mind if it’s a really good movie, but sometimes it just total overkill.

And… drum roll here…  it’s out!  It’s Uncle Jay’s Singing Year in Review!

Delay

There are a bunch of blogs that I enjoy following.  I subscribe to them by RSS feed and I usually peruse the bookmarks to see if there are any new posts so I don’t have to visit every blog every day (way too many blogs for that!).   I don’t know if that is how the rest of world follows blogs, but that’s how I’ve always done it…

I’ve noticed the past month or so, it takes a really long time for new posts to reach my bookmarks, and I don’t know why.  I’ll see a new post someone put up and when I go to visit the blog, it looks like the entry was posted a day earlier.

If that happened with only one or two blogs, it wouldn’t bother me so much – I’d figure that the entry was pre-dated or something, but it seems to happen with most of the blogs I follow.   I even see it with my blog when I post a new entry.

I guess in the grand scheme of things it’s not that big of a deal, but I wonder why that happens…

Why?

Could someone please explain to me why the telephone book people bother to go through all the trouble of putting the phone books - and I imagine that there are millions of them - into plastic bags?

I mean why bother, when it looks like when they are delivered, they are thrown from someone's car onto the wet ground in such a way that when the phone books land, they slide right out of the bag?

Why not save the lives of the bazillion plastic plants that were killed to make all the plastic bags? Not to mention all the man-hours that were probably wasted bagging the books up. Don't bother with the bags. Just throw the telephone books onto the wet ground. Either way, the books are useless. Meh.

On a happier note - I saw my first commercial for The Amazing Race! Finally. Only nine more days to go... Wahoo!!!
